2023-2024 ART SCARVES

In the spring of 2020, the “Window” series of scarves was released for the first time in North America as a limited edition of fashion collection created by the artist and designer, He Zhan. Each scarf pattern comes from lattice symbols of Chinese classical window, which contains auspicious implications. The appreciation is expected from the enjoyment of the softness and smoothness when unfolding a piece of a silk art work by hand. In its moist and flickering colors, the window patterns are deliberately shy away from its full disclosure. When the scarf is gently wrapped around one’s neck, it exudes a

peaceful oriental atmosphere.

The artistic designing expectation of the “window scarf” is beyond embellishment and decoration. It carries with the expression of the oriental philosophical idea: “The union of heaven and man” and “the union of things and me”.

Standing in the Chinese courtyard and looking around, all you can see are the doors and windows, both regular and intangible at the same time. When you walk into the rooms, interiors and the outside are divided by those doors and windows, but not strictly though. Everything is cast into contrasts between shades and shadows, fiction and reality.

Momentarily, time is lost in such a poetic atmosphere.
